Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – May 31, 1982

At eight o'clock in the morning, the [Parliamentary] session began. A short delay occurred due to the drawing of lots for seating assignments. The ministerial appointments of Mr. Behzad Nabavi and Mr. [Gholam-Reza] Aqazadeh were on the agenda. A request was made to hold a closed-door session so that opponents could voice their points without them being broadcast from the Parliament podium. The closed session lasted for an hour. The opponents had no major arguments to make. They emphasized Mr. [Behzad] Nabavi's deviant line (extremism in economics). From ten o'clock in the morning, the session entered the discussion stage. The session continued in the afternoon as well. The internal rifts within the Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution Organization—specifically the Hezbollah faction of the organization against Behzad [Nabavi]'s faction—were mostly raised in Parliament. I offered an effective defense for them, and both individuals were accepted with a high vote. The Prime Minister was also present and defended them as well.

At noon, I had a meeting with the Governor of Golpayegan, who complained about harassment by the Representative of Golpayegan. Mr. Etemadian, the head of the Endowments Organization, brought and introduced Dr. Dastmalchi, a high-level specialist in pediatrics who had returned from America to serve the Revolution. He suggested opening a medical complex for Islamic Azad University in Yazd.

Mashhadi Eidi, my host from pre-revolution times in Arak, came and had a request. I helped him and presented him with a book as a gift.

In the afternoon, I had a meeting with the staff of the *Orwat al-Wuthqa* magazine (the party's children's magazine) and spoke to them. I also had a meeting with officials from the State Welfare Organization, as well as a meeting with Colonel Katibeh, who had complaints regarding the Army Joint Staff and Mr. Zahirnezhad personally.
