Then we went to Behesht Zahra [to visit the graves of the martyrs] and a ceremony was held there as well; In the rules of the parliament, it is requested that after the opening session of each session of the parliament, the representatives go to the graves of the martyrs. The representatives of the first term and many guests of figures and personalities participated. The Imam's message was very good and it prevents the excesses of some representatives.
In the evening, Mr. [Mohsen] Rafiq Dost came along with Abu Khaled - Yasser Arafat's special envoy. He brought a letter from Arafat and verbally told Mr. Arafat that he has admitted his mistake and considers the imposed war as America's war and reaction against the Islamic Republic. He informed about the new American conspiracy against Iran, in order to destroy us. AB [brought] an unsigned letter suggesting that they start efforts for peace through the non-aligned countries and the Islamic Conference Organization and wanted an answer. I said that if Mr. Arafat says these things publicly, the way to improve relations will be paved. I said that we are not afraid of America.
In the evening, we had a meeting in the parliament. The election of the board of directors and the approval of the credentials of [Mr. Ali Nazari Monfard] Vakil Abadeh were done. At night, I came home.
The president discussed over the phone the replacement of [Brigadier General Zahirenjad], the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The news came that [Azm], the wife of [my son] Mohsen, was pregnant and [gave birth to] a son. They consulted about the name [of the baby]; I said that they should choose whatever they want.
