I woke up at two in the morning; I ate suhoor and prayed the morning prayer and slept a little. At eight o'clock in the morning, we held a meeting of the branch [review of credentials] and we worked until two o'clock in the afternoon and received and approved nineteen lawyers' credentials. I was tired I rested a little in the evening. I prayed the afternoon and evening prayers late, at four o'clock in the afternoon.
After many negotiations, the Secretary General of the United Nations finally approved the cease-fire proposal regarding the attack on civilian targets by both sides of the war and announced the start of the cease-fire at midnight on June 4, 1984, Greenwich Mean Time.
[Mr. Iraj Fazel] Minister of Science came and consulted about the statute of the "Student Accommodation Foundation" - which I had proposed in the Friday prayer a while ago. It was decided that I will be part of the founding board [of this foundation]. In the President's office, we had a meeting of the Supreme Council of Defense and decisions were made; Among other things, the proposal of [Mr. Xavier Parzdkoyar] of the Secretary General of the United Nations and the issue of American and French warships in the Persian Gulf were discussed. A dangerous action was described.
After the meeting, I gave an interview to the radio [reporter] and raised the prediction of Saddam's rocket launch in the hours before midnight, Greenwich Mean Time - which is the date for the start of the cease-fire proposed by the UN Secretary-General.
After the interview, the Prime Minister informed that a few minutes ago, Iraq fired four missiles at Dezful and caused a lot of damage. We also decided to increase the intensity of the shelling of Basra and canceled the Joint Staff's order to the units - regarding ceasing fire from the appointed time - and it was decided that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would explain about this.
The members of the Supreme Defense Council were the guests of Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei for the Iftar. Then I went to the parliament and read the reports. Finally, it turned out that Saddam's missiles in Dezful caused 44 martyrs and 200 wounded and a lot of damage. After [hearing] the news at ten o'clock at night, I slept in the parliament. The density of work and security considerations require that we spend less time in the streets, so I stay at work most of the night.
