I stayed home and spent most of the time studying the ruling on delegation (tawkil) or leasing (istijar) in the extraction of natural resources and the appropriation of ownerless public goods (hiyazat al-mubahat); this was for the economic discussions in the Friday prayer sermons and the position class of the [Islamic] Republican Party.
At 10:00 AM, the Supreme Defense Council convened at the Imam's office. Messrs. [Ali] Sayyad Shirazi and [Mohsen] Rezaei presented reports from the fronts, stating that in Operation Beit ol-Moqaddas we had a total of about six thousand martyrs, took nineteen thousand seven hundred prisoners, and over twenty thousand Iraqis were killed or wounded. At noon, we performed the congregational prayer with the Imam. The Council members were my guests, and in the afternoon after resting, matters were discussed and consulted with the President. The Prime Minister had gone to Sarcheshmeh to inaugurate the copper smelting furnace. Sister Tayyebeh, along with her children and husband, were our guests at noon. We ordered food from outside.
In the afternoon, Mr. [Abdol-Majid] Ma'adikhah, the Minister of Guidance, came to consult on foreign press and propaganda programs. He gave news of the recovery of stolen museum properties. At night, Mr. [Fakhraddin] Hejazi, who had returned from the OPEC conference, called and spoke of the Revolution's strength abroad and Syria's support for us against Iraq.
