Word came that yesterday the Iraqis had hit two of our ships in Khor Musa. I gave an extensive interview to the Pasdar-e Islam magazine of the Qom seminary about the state of the war and its results and predictions for the future.
At three in the afternoon I went to the Majlis. We were supposed to have a Rules of Procedure Commission meeting; it was held, but the agenda was not ready. It was postponed until next week. They spoke a little about the oil spill in the Persian Gulf and more about the war. They want to use the issue of the oil spill to help bring the war to an end. Their proposal is a withdrawal behind the borders and the establishment of an international fund to aid the two countries. Mr. Majid Ansari also came and spoke of the weakness of the minister of mines and metals and insists that he be replaced. At night we had a meeting about the war at the office of [Ayatollah] Mr. Khamenei. [Colonel Sayyad Shirazi], commander of the Ground Forces, and Mohsen Rezaei [commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] disagree over operational command. [Colonel Ali] Sayyad [Shirazi] wants there to be unified command, and that too from the Army, which is difficult for the IRGC to accept. It was decided that they would carry out the first operation jointly as in the past. If they wanted, they could also conduct separate operations, but Sayyad does not want to or cannot conduct an independent operation, and the IRGC agrees; disagreements among the front commanders have become problematic. Late at night I went to the Majlis to sleep.
