At noon, news was broadcast that the newspapers Enqelab-e Eslami, Mizan, Arman-e Mellat, Mardom, and the National Front had been temporarily suspended by the Tehran Revolutionary Prosecutor. It was a bold action. They were not supposed to be suspended, especially on the eve of the elections. I investigated and found out that the Supreme Judicial Council had also approved it.
In the afternoon, I attended a meeting of the Central Council of the party. The discussion was about the suspension of the newspapers. The majority were in favor, while a few were opposed, including me.
News came that Mr. Bani-Sadr had issued a statement. It became clear that they had decided not to broadcast it on radio and television because it was inflammatory and concerned these same newspapers.
At night, I attended a joint meeting of the party-supporting representatives and executive officials. We discussed the causes of rising prices for a while. Then we discussed the suspension of the newspapers. Mr. Beheshti justified the action, while Messrs. Olviri, Ansari, Zarandi, and Dr. Rouhani opposed it. Mr. Lajvardi, the Revolutionary Prosecutor, defended the action, and the majority of those present supported him. It was decided not to back down.
I came home at night. This afternoon, Effat had met with the Imam’s wife to arrange a meeting with the nurses from Ahvaz who had worked hard caring for the war wounded.
