Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 3, 1986

I participated in the public session of the Majlis until half past ten in the morning. Mr. [Mahdi] Karroubi [Deputy Speaker of the Majlis] managed the rest of the meeting. Mr. Mohsen Rezaei came in the afternoon. We discussed about the executive headquarters of Khatam camp in order to mobilize the country's facilities for the war and I pointed out the problems of his interview.

In the evening, I did not go to the Cultural Revolution Council and stayed in the parliament for work. Mr. Mohsen Rezaei came and brought the video of an innovative IRGC mortar that after hitting the ground, is launched into the space and its shrapnel is scattered when it explodes within a quarter of the ground. It also brought the anti-tank mortar, which has been innovated. He used them for their mass production.

Mr. Seyyed Hadi Hashemi [son-in-law and head of Mr. Montazeri's office] came in the evening and brought Ayatollah Montazeri's message that they have been following up on their plan to merge the army and the IRGC and were upset by the beating of the leaders of the freedom movement and the follow-up of the plans for operations inside Iraq. We discussed Seyyed Mehdi Hashemi.

We were the guests of Mr. Fazel Harandi for Iftar. They talked about economic problems due to the decrease of oil currency. Some are optimistic that this need will lead to independence and self-sufficiency and less dependence. They talked about foreign relations, especially the reform of relations with the Soviet Union and France.

It was decided to send a delegation headed by Mr. Ebrahimi from Beit Ayatollah Montazeri to Lebanon to mediate the ongoing war between Amal and the Palestinians. At night, I told Dr. Velayati to arrange the work of the delegation. Dr. Velayati informed me that France has said that it will expel the hypocrites.
