We inquired with Ayatollah Sedoughi’s household. It turned out that the girl had converted to Islam and had separated from her family, who were not Muslims, and had sought refuge in Mr. Sedoughi’s home. Mr. Malekpour is still pursuing the matter.
In the afternoon, we had a meeting of the Presiding Board. We arranged the program for the following week. There is a lot of work and little time. Toward the end of the day, Messrs. Rezaei and Mohammadzadeh came from the Revolutionary Guards, and we discussed the political course of action toward the opponents. They proposed selecting a group to provide political direction and guidance. I agreed, and it was decided that they would propose some names.
At night, I was invited both to the Society of Combatant Clerics and to Dr. [Yadollah] Sahabi’s home for a meeting of the Tehran representatives, and also to Mr. Khamenei’s home to raise money for the expenses of the party and newspaper.
Early on, I went to Mr. Khamenei’s home; since he himself was not there, I did not stay. Mr. Beheshti had not come either. Mr. Khamenei himself negotiated with the guests and obtained commitments or cash amounting to about ten million tomans. We need sixty million tomans.
At the clerics’ meeting, their aim was to restore the damaged credibility of the Society [of Combatant Clerics of Tehran] by renewing its alliance with revolutionary clerical forces who had withdrawn from the Society because of its relations with Mr. Bani-Sadr.
To be fair, they made a great deal of concessions. Mr. [Abdolmajid] Ma’adikhah and Dr. [Hassan] Rouhani were strict, but in restoring the Society’s credibility, they were ultimately relatively successful. It was decided to reorganize the Society anew. Mr. Beheshti also arrived.
We had dinner there and did not make it to Mr. Sahabi’s home. They will probably be very upset and interpret it as being for political reasons, but I had wanted to go. Mr. [Sheikh Fazlollah] Mahallati prevented me from going because of the importance he attached to the Society’s meeting. He said that he would apologize to them on my behalf.
