Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 23, 1982

Effat, Fati, Mehdi, Yaser, and I had our pre-dawn meal to fast. Mother does not fast due to her old age and frailty. I slept until near 9:00 AM. I stayed home the entire day, reading, resting, writing my diary, and preparing the Arabic sermon for Friday prayers.

The Foreign Minister called and gave a report on the situation. At night, Ahmad Aqa called and said that the Imam emphasizes and insists on his previous position regarding the issues in Lebanon. I called Mr. [Seyed Hossein] Mousavi Tabrizi and told him to transfer Mr. Ghafoor [Sadegh] Khalkhali to Tehran prison. All the children gathered for Iftar. Yaser held up well, fasting for seventeen hours despite not having reached the age of religious obligation yet.

The Prosecutor's Office sent a booklet on the status of Khosrow Qashqai to prove that he did not return under safe conduct and came to Shiraz with the intention of fleeing. Engineer [Rajab Ali] Taheri [representative of Kazerun] claims that he came under his safe conduct. It is possible that Khosrow [Qashqai] intended to flee, but used Mr. Taheri's safe conduct as a means to avoid potential arrest.
