Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 18, 1982

I went to Tehran University to lead the Friday prayers. I delivered one sermon on Islamic economics, and another sermon on Israel's aggression against Lebanon and the necessity of continuing the struggle until the downfall of Israel.

In the afternoon, Ahmad Aqa came and conveyed the Imam's view on several topics under discussion. The Imam desires to have a representative on the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution other than the individuals currently on the committee, and for those current members to no longer serve as the Imam's representatives. He also wishes to have a representative on the Supreme Economic Council due to the complaints he receives alleging a leftist economic leaning within the Council; the Imam's representative can provide him with peace of mind.

Regarding the Hojjatieh Society, the Imam's position is that their influential members should not hold sensitive and key positions. If they themselves wish to do so, the Society should be dissolved; otherwise, their activities should be placed under supervision.

Today, after months of war over the Falkland Islands, the Argentines surrendered to the British, resulting in the ouster of the President of Argentina.
