It was the anniversary of the Prophet’s appointment to prophethood, and I had no work to do. I was two days behind in writing my diary. I wrote it from memory.
It was the anniversary of the Prophet’s appointment to prophethood, and I had no work to do. I was two days behind in writing my diary. I wrote it from memory. The night before, because the children had been guests at the home of Martyr Motahari for their brother’s wedding celebration, and because they had overlooked dinner, I had gone to bed without having dinner. I slept more comfortably than on other nights. It is better that I not have dinner at night, or eat something very light, because since I do not eat a good meal at noon, I sometimes eat a heavy meal at night, and that is not good.
Early in the morning, Colonel Vahid, the Chief of Police, came. He was upset about Brigadier General Alborzi being sentenced to three months in prison and permanent dismissal from service. I told him that, because the court lacked jurisdiction, he might be able to avoid the sentence. He complained about Mr. Zavare’i’s opposition.
Habib, the son of Ali Aghasafarian, my maternal cousin, who had lost his leg in the war, came. He had been a soldier in Dezful. A prosthetic leg had been made for him, but because there was no nylon covering for the leg, it had not yet been delivered to him. He said that many people were waiting for prosthetic legs. They had given him a room at Park Hotel and were taking care of him there. He has a high-school diploma, and there are many people like him; a fundamental plan must be made for the war-disabled.
Near noon, I went to see the Imam to offer my congratulations. It was extremely crowded. I got out of the car in the street. I was surrounded and pressed by people expressing their feelings toward me. It took a great deal out of me before I could get away from them. How kind and loyal the people are.
There, I learned that Manouchehr Masoudi, the President’s adviser, had been arrested on charges of corruption. Ahmad Agha said that Mr. Bani-Sadr wanted him not to be identified as my adviser. I contacted Mr. Rajaei, and he spoke to Mr. Lajvardi. It was decided that the matter would not be announced for the time being.
A telex came saying that Mr. [Ahmad] Salamatiyan, the representative of Isfahan, who had wanted to speak at the opening ceremony of the office for coordinating the people with the President, had been injured by Hezbollahis, who had disrupted the ceremony, and that he had escaped wearing a chador. It would have been better if he had escaped without a chador, so that it would not be recorded in history in this way!
People from the Qaem Corps had come and complained that the Army personnel wanted to take away the tanks that the Corps had captured and brought to the rear.
In the afternoon, I went with the children to Sa’dabad Barracks for shooting practice and gave a speech to the Revolutionary Guards. At night, people from the Corps came to the house for consultation.
