Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 9, 1988

I went to the parliament at half past eight in the morning. There were many references, regarding the concern of Iraq's attack on Khorramshahr and Abadan, and it turned out that [Mr. Mohsen Mirdamadi [Governor] of Khuzestan [and] Ayatollah Mousavi Jazayeri], Imam Juma of Ahvaz, have announced danger and asked people to go to the front. It was not supposed to be announced so clearly. Mr. Abdullah Nouri came. They talked about the Ministry of Construction Jihad and the Planning Office of the Armed Forces. In the evening, I did the work of the parliament in my office.

Representatives of Khuzestan came and expressed concern for Abadan Island. I explained what aid was sent to the defense. The night of the meeting of the heads of forces was in the office of Ayatollah Khamenei. Dr. Velayati, who is going to New York, consulted about the Security Council. In addition, he was told to solve the issue of war through politics so that Iraq is recognized as an aggressor. We also discussed the government cabinet. The Prime Minister and the President did not reach an agreement. It was decided that tomorrow in the parliament, I will take action to remove the requirement for a vote of confidence so that the existing cabinet will continue until next year. I reached home around twelve o'clock at night.
