Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 3, 1982

A public holiday was declared by the government on the occasion of Ayatollah Sadooghi's martyrdom. I stayed at home the entire time, reading and resting. A magnificent funeral procession took place in Yazd. Representatives on behalf of the Imam, the President, myself, the government, and others attended. Ceremonies were also held in most cities.

Mr. Mohsen Rezaee called and mentioned that they are gradually preparing for operations, and a large number of volunteers have come forward. He requested that IRIB broadcast the materials prepared by the IRGC regarding the sub-groups; I informed [my brother] Mohammad, and it was agreed to be carried out.

In the afternoon, I consulted with the President over the phone regarding current issues. Ahmad Aqa also came, and we discussed the reason for his non-attendance at the Party. The Imam has stated that he should not attend the Party, as the Imam generally prohibits him from accepting any official responsibility in institutions and bodies, and to date, he has not explained the reason for this. Of course, managing the Imam's office is a major undertaking, and it is necessary for all of his energy to be devoted to managing the office.
