I stayed at home. Mr. [Abdul-Karim] Mousavi Ardebili led the Friday prayers. I signed a number of Qurans to be given as awards to IRGC personnel for Quran recitation. Signing Qurans, photographs, and books has also become part of the duties for government officials. I wrote down my backlogged daily memoirs.

At 3:00 PM, information was received from the Prime Minister's office that Ayatollah [Mohammad] Sadooghi [Imam of Friday Prayers in Yazd] was martyred after Friday prayers. A terrorist detonated a grenade while clinging to him, which also killed the attacker and injured a number of people. It is strange that his bodyguards, knowing of the martyrdom of Messrs. [Seyed Abdul-Karim] Hasheminejad, [Asadollah] Madani, and [Abdul-Hossein] Dastgheib, as well as the assassination attempt on [Sadegh] Ehsanbakhsh through the exact same method, failed to prevent this assassination. I asked Mr. [Mohammad] Mousavi Khoeiniha to accompany government representatives to Yazd tomorrow for the funeral.

In the afternoon, Ahmad Aqa came, and we consulted on current issues and the Imam's statement [regarding the martyrdom of Ayatollah Sadooghi]. I wrote a statement myself to issue to the media and conducted a telephone interview with the *Jomhuri Eslami* newspaper.
