Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 28, 1982

At ten o'clock in the morning I went to visit the Imam; he was in very good health. I consulted him about the trip to India; he said that if they can maintain security, it would be fine. Regarding [Sayed Hussein Mousavi Tabrizi], the Chief Prosecutor of the Revolution, the Imam will not allow the Judicial Council to restrict him.

For lunch, I invited the Imam to our home, but he declined, saying that if he accepted, he would have to go to his children's house as well, which would be a waste of time. In the Imam's office, I spoke with Mr [Seyed Ali Akbar] Mohtashami[pour], the Iranian ambassador to Syria. He had some points to raise and was to come to the Supreme Defence Council this evening.

In the evening, I attended a meeting of the Supreme Defence Council. Decisions were made regarding an attack on Baghdad airport should Iraq attack Iranian cities. It was also agreed that the two landing craft, which we had previously purchased from Britain and the delivery of which was suspended after the [revolutionary] victory, would be demanded. It turned out that if we were to cancel, we would have to pay a higher sum in damages to the company. The war plans were also reviewed.

We got home late at night. Mohsen, who had been with me, went to the Majlis to go to the shooting range for target practice tomorrow, and then to the front. I spoke with the Foreign Minister about the plan for the trip to India.
