Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 1, 1982

I attended the open session. The general policy of IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) was discussed, and up to Article 42 was approved. At noon, I participated in Committee Eight for the selection of commission members. In the afternoon, after resting and listening to the news, I had a meeting with Mr. [Mahmoud] Karimi, head of the Bonyad-e Mostazafan (Foundation of the Oppressed). He complained about the Prime Minister interfering in his affairs.

Afterwards, I met with the Ministers of Agriculture, Housing, Health, Higher Education, Finance, Plan and Budget, and Industry (the so-called left-wing faction) regarding their disagreements with the opposing faction over economic plans. I told them that the Imam is concerned about excessive pressure on the private sector and might react, so I asked them to give the private sector some leeway in areas such as production and distribution. We had a two-hour discussion, which was productive. I came home for Iftar.
