According to the reports, the president and prime minister of Pakistan agreed with the army commander to resign and dissolve the parliament and hold elections.

I reached my office at half past eight. At ten o'clock in the morning, the veteran athletes who had returned from the war disabled races in England arrived. They have become the vice champion of the world and have brought many medals. I encouraged them a lot and gave them gifts and took pictures with them. Dr. [Hasan] Ghafouri Fard, [Head of the Physical Education Organization] also reported.

Mr. [Mohammed] Emami Kashani came. He appealed to remove obstacles to doing profitable trade with Iraq and to support backward children. I said the problem is that there is a risk of being accused of violating UN regulations regarding Iraq, and America is following up. I advised that the Guardian Council should not be strict regarding the free zones bill.

Mr. [Jalil] Besharti, the head of the Office of Deprived Regions, came and gave a work report and asked for an opinion on the trip to Tabriz with the leadership. Mr. [Sabah] Zanganeh, our representative in the Islamic Conference Organization, came and gave a work report.

Dr. [Hasan] Habibi came. He gave the report of his trip to Sistan and Baluchistan and we discussed about the future cabinet. Mr. Malek Jafari, the security officer of the institution, came and gave a work report.

In the evening, I attended the meeting of the government board. I talked to the ministers about the future cabinet. I put forward two specific assumptions: 1- Bringing the cabinet to the parliament without prior understanding with the parliament, 2- Prior understanding with the parliament, which will require the removal of some ministers, who mostly preferred the latter.

Ayatollah Khamenei was my guest that night. We negotiated and reached an understanding about the establishment of a newspaper for the government, Tajikistan's issues related to national reconciliation, the response to the American message through the Swiss embassy, the issue of Islamic education units in the university program and the composition of the future cabinet. At twelve o'clock at night, I listened to the news on the radio and went to sleep.
