I woke up at quarter past five. I had breakfast with milk and dates and did the remaining work until eight o'clock in the morning. In the reports, the conference [international ban on the use of chemical weapons in] Paris is at the top, and Imam's letter to Gorbachev is also discussed. I stayed in the public meeting until half past ten.

Before noon, our ambassadors arrived in the countries south of the Persian Gulf. They gave the report of the seminar about regional issues and summarized the discussions. I approved the policy of moving towards the appreciation of relationships. At noon, Mr. [Mehdi] Akhundzadeh and Mr. Mustafavi, our ambassadors in London and Ben, came. They gave a report on the state of relations. They talked about the readiness of England and [West] Germany to develop economic relations and consulted.

In the evening, Mr. [Rasoul] Seddiqi, the representative of Benab and Malikan, came. He specializes in lasers and works with the IRGC and the Nuclear Energy Agency. He gave useful information and had suggestions in focusing and admiring the nuclear and laser industries.

Mr. [Mohammed] Salah and [Mohammed] Moazi came. They gave the report of their trip to the Soviet Union with the economic delegation and demanded to follow up the memorandums and develop relations. I told them to follow up and I told them to organize the sending of a parliamentary delegation to the Soviet Union. Mr. [Mohsen] Qaraati came with a group of colleagues and soldiers. They had a plan for literacy in the armed forces, which I approved and gave twenty million tomans for the literacy movement. I broke my fast. The guards had prepared iftar.

Mr. [Mohammed Javad] Larijani came and explained the deliberations of the committee to convey Imam's message to Gorbachev. He said that Gorbachev was warm with the delegation and shook hands with Mrs. Dabagh. At the beginning of her arrival, Mrs. Dabagh shook her hand under the tent, but at the end of the meeting, Gorbachev put his hand under the tent and held Mrs. Dabagh's hand and praised her for her struggles and social activities. Mrs. Dabbagh herself came this morning and expressed her anxiety about this incident, and I consoled her. I came home at night. Mrs. Motahari and her children came and begged for the printing paper of Shahid Motahari's books.
