Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – December 29, 1993

I woke up at half past four in the morning and did not sleep again. It was not an important issue in the news. Sample farmers came. The minister and two of them spoke. I gave the awards and gave a speech. A cold prevented him from talking much.

Together with the members of the Majlis of Experts, we went to the leadership office to meet with them. Mr. [Ali] Meshkini, [Chairman of the Majlis of Experts] spoke and made a proposal regarding the appointment of an imitation authority and negotiation on the fight against inflation, which Ayatollah Khamenei bitterly rejected both. They considered the existing method of determining the leadership as good and emphasized the necessity of explicit protection of the leadership and praised me with expressive expressions.

At lunch, members of the Assembly of Experts were my guests. Mr. Meshkini talked a bit and gave some notes about music and... I explained as usual. Mr. Meshkini and Seyyed Mehdi Rouhani stayed to rest. Mr. Rouhani criticized the interference of the special court against Seyyed Mohammad Rouhani, but Mr. Meshkini considered it right to create an obstacle in the way of developing his influence because he was an opponent of the Imam from the beginning.

In the evening [Mr. Hasan Hasanoff], the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan came. He gave a report on Heydar Aliyev's trip to France and the summit of the Commonwealth of Nations in Ashgabat. He thanked us for our help and asked for their rights.

In the meeting of the government board, we passed several resolutions and approved the governors of Lorestan and Yazd. At night, on the way home, I went to Akhtar Hospital to fix my tooth that had fallen in Ghaem Shahr. Saeed [Lahoti] quickly settled down and we came home.
