Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – August 31, 1982

I was at home until nine in the morning. Members of Parliament, Revolutionary Guard commanders, ambassadors and chargés d'affaires, and the Friday prayer leaders of Paveh met with the Imam. I spoke for a while, and then the Imam spoke and criticized the decision of a large number of representatives and officials to travel to Mecca. Presumably, some of them will change their minds.

Dr. Velayati, the Foreign Minister, came to our house and consulted about some matters, and informed me that two people had gone to Pakistan for negotiations. I spoke with the Revolutionary Guard commander about future attacks and operations. In the afternoon, Mr. [Abdolmajid] Moadi-Khah came and complained about the censorship of his interview on television.

At night, I listened to the news. There was nothing particularly important. I called Mr. Khamenei, who had returned from Mashhad, to check on him. That night, Mr. [Mostafa] Kaffashzadeh came and pleaded on behalf of one of the leaders of the Iraqi Kurdish groups fighting against Saddam, who had apparently recently been neglected by Iran. The children went out for recreation with their cousins.
