Mr. [Hamid] Mirzadeh, [executive vice president] came. He gave the reconstruction report and the current works were discussed. Mr. [Mohsen] Daagu, [President's representative in the Broadcasting Policy Council] came. He discussed and discussed the actions of the High Council of Radio and Television Policymaking and how to coordinate with the CEO of the organization; I commented on reducing the number of direct broadcast programs and diversifying the programs. Pricing and municipality were also discussed.

The members of the [government] production commission came. The lack of currency for the production plan was discussed. We discussed and made a decision about the ways to cover the currency deficit. In the evening, I attended the meeting of the government board. The government employee salary increase bill was approved by about 20%. We also discussed the issue of reconstruction and its needs.

Mr. [Ali Mohammad] Basharti, [Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs] informed that the Ministry of Intelligence, [Mr. Abu Khaled], the special envoy [Yasser] Arafat, [the leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization-PLO-] and Saddam [Hussein, the President of Iraq], who brought a letter from them, have been arrested; I ordered Mr. [Ali] Falahian, [Minister of Information], to release them immediately; they have done a bad thing; [they have done such a thing] because of a dispute with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. [Mr. Abu Khaled] wanted an appointment. I told them to submit the letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Akhvi Mahmoud came from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He brought the letter of Saddam [Hussein, the president of Iraq] and Yasir Arafat [the leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization] that Abu Khaled brought. Saddam proposed meeting the heads of the two countries in Mecca for reconciliation and Arafat demanded to accept this proposal. I talked to the leader on the phone about this. It was decided that the Supreme National Security Council will meet tomorrow to discuss the issue.
