They spoke of the mistake in not permitting the presidency for the clergy, which led to the presidency of Bani-Sadr, and presented a photocopy of a letter they had written to the Imam prior to the presidential election, sounding the alarm regarding the prohibition on electing clergy. They had put forward my name, Mr. Khamenei's, and Mr. Rabbani Shirazi's for the presidency. It is an interesting letter. Today, their warning has found meaning and concrete expression. Engineer Hatami suggested nominating Al-Sharif for the Isfahan by-election, but Al-Sharif and Dr. Vahid were not in favor.
Dr. Vahid, unfortunately, is sick and depressed. Apparently, at the onset of the Iran-Iraq war he was in Saudi Arabia, and the barrage of propaganda there has caused him to suffer from depression.
They insisted on winning over Mr. Rabbani Shirazi and said that Dr. [Mozaffar] Baqa'i has retired politically and is of no use to today's generation. Al-Sharif and Hatami belong to the Toilers' Party (Hezb-e Zahmatkashan).
Mr. Mohammad-Zadeh Ahvazi came. He had suggestions regarding producing a film about the life of the Shah and his family to keep the memory of the Shah's crimes alive, reforming the Revolutionary Courts, and winning over opposing clerics. He is concerned about the dissatisfaction among the clergy.
At noon, for the children's recreation, we went to the Iravani garden in Karaj, which is in the possession of the IRGC (Sepah). A girls' camp from the Khosravi school was also there; we led congregational prayers with them, and they were thankful. Apparently, they are religious and revolutionary.
In the evening, we paid a quick visit to Heljerd. Eight years ago, the Dezhsaz company—in which I also own a few shares—bought that place, but nothing has been done, and almost all of its existing trees have dried up, even though a lot was spent. Then we went to the Refah camp garden. It was relatively orderly, the children swam in the pool, and we had tea as guests of the gardeners. Early in the evening, we returned home.
