Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – April 22, 1985

I used to study at home until half past eight in the morning. We reached Imam's service with the president and discussed with him about the party [Islamic Republic] and the war. Ahmad Agha was also present.

The Imam has reservations about the activity of the party in which the important official figures of the country are; Because the weaknesses of the party will cover them and they will not have the power to fully reform. has They do not agree with the two of us coming out and leaving the party alone; After many negotiations, it was decided that the activities of the party will be gradually limited and this party will become stagnant, so that if it is necessary one day, it can revive. We decided to discuss about the war and find a way to solve the problem of the taste of the army and the army and the command of the war. Imam, like us, has pointed out that the main problem of the war is the differences in taste of the commanders of the army and the IRGC.

Then we held a three-person meeting at Ahmad Agha's house. Regarding the war, we came to the conclusion that efforts should be made so that Colonel Sayad [Shirazi] can implement his plan. If he could not or failed to implement the plan, a long-term plan with the following principles: 1- unity of command 2- integration of the corps and army ground forces 3- determination of the necessary period for a specific goal 4- preparation of the necessary tools for a large-scale war 5- strong defense in two periods of effort, for defense readiness should be prepared and signed by the Imam to solve the problems of the corps and the army for the post-war era.

Regarding the [Islamic Republic] party, it was agreed that an executive plan to turn off the party's light will be prepared until the next meeting. Regarding the Hezbollah demonstrations, it was agreed that Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei would give an interview and explicitly demand that the demonstrations be stopped.

Mr. [Hosheng] Sediq [commander of the army air force] asked by phone to allow the plane to fly to Libya to bring the weapons that they have agreed to. They asked the parliament about the speaker of the academicians' demonstration ceremony - who is supposed to come to the parliament. I told them to talk to Mr. Yazdi. In the evening, Dr. [Hasan] Rouhani and Dr. [Mohammed Ali] Hadi [Najafabadi] came and proposed materials about the war, foreign policy, and arms procurement, which were to be followed.

At night, Dr. Velayati came and gave a report about his trip to Geneva and India. He brought the travel plan to Japan and stressed about the trip to Libya. He also suggested that in response to [Ronald] Reagan's [US President] statements about our presence in Nicaragua, our stolen helicopter and the freedom of Iranian and Iraqi prisoners, actions and propaganda should be done.
