Regarding the official threat from the United States, he said, "We see hypocrisy from the United States.  

Mr. [Mehdi] Safari, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Northern Commonwealth Affairs, came to Armenia for consultations on the summit of the Caspian Sea littoral countries and criticized the leftists and parliamentarians about Iran's share in the Caspian Sea. Ms. [Elaheh] Koolaei, [a representative from Tehran], said that according to the 1921 and 1940 agreements, Iran has half of the Caspian Sea and the government cannot reduce it to 20 percent without the approval of the parliament.  

He criticized the government's weakness in decision-making and Mr. Khatami's lack of attention to Central Asia and the Caucasus, contrary to the active policy of the construction era, including the refusal to accept the proposal to buy Turkmenistan's surplus gas in order to stop the American conspiracies and gain its monopoly in the region and sell it to Turkey at a reasonable profit. The UN Security Council, through Resolution 1405, has approved the establishment of a commission of inquiry to the region to investigate Israel's crimes in Jenin, and the United States has not been able to oppose.
