Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – April 17, 1982

From the beginning of the day, I was occupied with studying and did some walking in the yard. I moved a few mint plants and watered them. Efat went to the University of Tehran for a doctor's appointment and a complete check-up.

At ten in the morning, I went to the office of the Imam's advisor at the Army headquarters and attended to army affairs. Around twelve, I went to the Majlis. Mr. [Seyyed Jalal] Sadatiyan, my office head, who had gone to Germany to participate in the seminar of the Union of Islamic Associations of Iranian Students Residing in Europe, reported that their situation was good; the opposing elements have retreated and the line of the Imam prevails. Until evening, I studied reports.

A group of officials from the cultural department of the Martyrs' Foundation came and said that the families of the martyrs are worried that the arrival of the mediation delegation from the Islamic Conference might lead to a ceasefire and that the blood of their dear martyrs would be trampled. They have sent a message that the devotees are not ready to accept a ceasefire and that the blood price of our martyrs is the establishment of Islamic rule in Iraq. And a group of officials from the seven-person committees for land distribution came, and I spoke to them. At night, I stayed in the Majlis, studied, and listened to the news.

Regarding the situation that arose in Qom, due to the possibility of the involvement of Mr. Shariatmadari's household in the Qotbzadeh conspiracy, I took telephone measures to ensure that the people would not go to extremes and would not harm him. I also spoke with Ayatollah Montazeri about this matter. It became clear that the Sepah is protecting his house. At night, a copy of the telegram that he had sent to the Imam arrived, in which he had in a way sought assistance. He considers himself innocent of the conspiracy and asks the Imam that in such matters, he be consulted beforehand.
