Akbar Hashemi's Memoirs - August 13, 2002

Mr [Ahmad] Hagholbi, commander of the Division of Conservation, came.  They want to commemorate the 300 martyrs of the protection and want to speak at the summit.  He said that with Mr. Khatami, [President] had gone to Kabul;  Kabul is very broken and the effects of wars.  Water and electricity and ... are low and weak.  The protection of US military from [Hamed] Karzai, [the head of the Afghan Interim Government], had also made it difficult for the Iranian delegation to work;  Because of their protection, they were even present at the formal negotiations.

The number of floods has reached 36, and European casualties are increasing.  The flood in Europe is severe.  It is said that the flood has not seen so much since 500 years ago.  Water in some rivers is 100 times the amount of normal conditions.
