Part of Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani's diary entry on Thursday, February 7, 2002

  The night of Hassan Agha Khomeini came.  He invited Haj Ahmad Agha for the anniversary ceremony. He complained about not participating in the ceremony on 12 Bahman at Imam's shrine. He said that Ayatollah Montazeri expected to see a large number of students and people come to meet him after lifting the siege, but contrary to their expectations, only some of their known friends went.  He quoted from the words of some people around him that their boredom is deep.  
Regarding the national participation of religious people in the council elections, he said, [Party] does not want them to participate, because they take part of their votes;  On the other hand, they are afraid that if they refuse, their supporters will protest and not vote for them.  They want the judiciary to prevent them, and when they see that the judiciary has not prevented them, they have given them a message that if they insist on participating in the nomination, the leadership will deal with them, and they have suggested that they resign themselves, and they seem to have accepted, but they have asked them to accept their authority and then leave.  

He said, they say in the circles, Mr. Hashemi's strategy and policy is interesting that his opponents who oppressed him, get into trouble and it does not end in his name, and God's justice has done its work.

He said, two nights ago there was a meeting at the house of Mr. [Gholam Mohsin] Karbaschi, [Secretary General of the Construction Agents Party], and the leaders of Dom Khordadi were there, and they criticized Mr. [Syed Mohammad] Khatami, [President], who reacted in such a way about the book "Listening to Ghosts", why was it about the book [His Excellency Sarkhpoosh Akbar] Ganji published against Mr. Hashemi with the permission of the Ministry of Guidance.  Hasn't there been such an encounter?
