One of the measures that the Trump administration has pursued aggressively in its month in office is to counter illegal immigration.

According to the Reuters news agency, the new group was flown from San Diego to San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. Costa Rican authorities then took them by bus to a migrant shelter near the Panamanian border.

A Costa Rican security official said they were allowed to stay in Costa Rica for a month and that they would be scheduled to return to their countries of origin voluntarily.

The migrants are from Uzbekistan, China, Armenia, Turkey, Afghanistan, Russia, Georgia, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan and Ghana.

Last week, a group of 299 people, including Iranians and Afghans, was transferred from the United States to Panama.

The Panamanian government said three of the migrants had applied for asylum and could eventually be accepted by other countries, such as Canada.
