The Vatican declared:
All 133 cardinals expected to attend the secret meeting to elect a new pope have arrived in Rome, and the race to succeed Pope Francis has begun.
The secret meeting begins on Wednesday afternoon behind the closed wooden doors of the Sistine Chapel and all cardinals under the age of 80 are entitled to choose the successor to Francis, who died last month.
Some cardinals are looking for a new pope who will continue Francis' efforts to create a more transparent church with a more open embrace, while others are looking to roll back to more traditional roots.
