In November 2022, in the midst of the nationwide protests of 2022, after the death of Mahsa (Gina) Amini in the custody of the Irshad Patrol, the European Union had sanctioned Abararvan for its role in Internet censorship and preventing Iranians from accessing the free flow of the Internet.
Abararvan wrote in a short announcement while releasing the news of his withdrawal from the European Union sanctions list that his sanctions were lifted following "a complaint and submission of technical and legal documents to the European Court of Justice".

The announcement of lifting the ban on Abararwan has provoked a negative reaction from a group of users against the Islamic Republic. They point to the experience of the internet disconnection and "silence" of protesting voices in November 2020 and the 2022 protests.

In July 2023, the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned Abararvan, two of its founders, and a subsidiary company in Iran for "collaborating with the Iranian Ministry of Communications in developing the national information network, cutting off Iranians' access to the global Internet, and facilitating Internet censorship" .
