Alireza Faghani in an interview with Etemad newspaper:
It has been five years since I emigrated from Iran, but for the first two or three years, I was somehow active in international competitions under the Iranian flag. Then my friends saw fit for me not to judge in the name of Iran, and the situation became such that I continued my international refereeing on behalf of Australia. I still follow the Iranian league and see the work of my friends.
Sometimes we give advice and guidance to each other. Even though I am now refereeing in the name of Australia, I am still known as an Iranian referee at the international level. Maybe that's why I'm still mentioned in Iranian football.
