100% of the country's urban population is exposed to a concentration higher than the guidelines of the World Health Organization.

In 2024, about 58,975 deaths in the country were attributed to exposure to suspended particles less than 2.5 microns, which is equivalent to 161 deaths per day and about 7 deaths per hour.

The average daily concentration of particles less than 2.5 microns in the metropolises of the country has been far higher than the permissible limits of the World Health Organization.

The lowest annual average concentration of particles less than 2.5 microns was recorded in the stations of Efrain, Shahroud, Sanandaj (Visual Park) and Rasht with values ​​between 6 and 10 micrograms per cubic meter.

The highest concentrations are in the cities of Ramhormoz (54), Behbahan (52), Handijan (52), Ahvaz-Hafari (47), Qarchak (48), Baghershahr (46), District 19 of Tehran and Shahrari (45), which is 4 to 9 times the World Health Organization guidelines.
