The houbara, the bird that ranks first in wildlife trafficking, a large number of this bird leaves the country illegally every year. Arab countries, especially the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, are considered the most important destinations for houbara smuggling.

The interest of Arab sheikhs in hunting this bird using falcons is one of the main reasons for its smuggling. They believe that houbara hunting is a kind of demonstration of strength and skill. This has led to the formation of a thriving black market for houbara smuggling.

There is no exact estimate of the global population of the houbara, but according to IUCN reports, the number of this bird is steadily declining. Countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and North African countries are considered its main habitats. A significant part of the habitats of Hubra is located in the central plateau of Iran.
