Some Shiite scholars believe that the meaning of the hadith is that the heretics should be stunned with strong arguments.

Mulla Saleh Mazandarani and Morteza Motahari by mentioning the verse "Fabuheta al-Dhi Kafar" (the one who had disbelieved was stunned) have suggested that the meaning of the hadith is that one should bring arguments against heretics in such a way that they are stunned; Just as Prophet Ibrahim stunned Nimrod with his strong arguments.

Allameh Majlesi, after mentioning both the conflicting meanings, has preferred this meaning citing the words of some lexicographers who considered "behat" to mean to be astonished.

After mentioning this hadith, Sahib Riyad also did not consider blasphemy to the people of innovation permissible.
The owner of Jawahar believes that citing this hadith, it is not possible to accuse heretics of ugly things that they did not do.

It is said that the interpretation of "bahetohom" as "slander" and the permissibility of slandering the heretics did not exist before the 12th century, and Sheikh Morteza Ansari is the first jurist who proposed this theory as a possibility. Sheikh Ansari in the book Makasab, although at first he did not consider it permissible to slander the heretics, but later he suggested that it is permissible to slander the heretics in order to keep people away from them.

Although some authors have considered the interpretation of slander to be in accordance with other parts of the narration (the permissibility of swearing and cursing), they believe that the Mubahate narration is not compatible with the life of Imams and Muslims of Sharia.

According to Seyyed Musa Shabiri Zanjani, one of the Shia imitation authorities in the 15th lunar century, the religion is stable with truth and honesty, and it did not come to a place where the imams eliminated their opponents with lies and slander; Therefore, the narration of Mubahateh should be discarded or interpreted.
