زQahramanpour: The mental perceptions of Iran and the United States are so far apart that they have locked negotiations.

Rahman Qahramanpour, Middle East affairs expert:

Iran–US relations are in a situation that can be described as a “neither war nor peace” condition.

The United States is caught in a credibility trap and, despite military strikes, has not achieved any significant political success.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is also trying to escape a “survival trap” and secure its continuity.

Israel, as a third actor, consistently tends to escalate tensions between Iran and the United States.

The internal cohesion formed in Iran is mainly the result of patriotism and opposition to foreign aggression.

In the current situation, a kind of competition of resilience has emerged between Iran and the United States.

Iran hopes that by increasing its resilience, it can force the United States to retreat.

The divergent mental perceptions of the two sides regarding the outcomes of confrontations have effectively locked the path of negotiations.
