Takht-Ravanchi stated, "We certainly had permission to negotiate, and it is not against the Leader's view. We held talks in Geneva, not negotiations."

"Takht-Ravanchi announced that the purpose of these talks was to safeguard the achievements of the Islamic Revolution and emphasized that we did not negotiate but merely engaged in dialogue and exchange of views. We did not negotiate in Geneva because there was no text to negotiate over." (ISNA)
