From Operation Nasr 6 to the Liberation of Somar and Qasr-e Shirin

On August 1, 1987, Operation Nasr 6 was launched in the Mīmak region, as part of the battles in western Iran during the final years of the Iran-Iraq War. A year later, on August 1, 1988, news broke of the liberation of Somar and Qasr-e Shirin—two cities that had repeatedly changed hands between Iran and Iraq and whose names became intertwined with resistance and destruction. These events were not merely military reports; they also reflected a transformation in the social experience of Iranians—a generation that had moved from the industrial development of the 1970s to a life shaped by war, air-raid sirens, and reconstruction.
