Sadegh Ghotbzadeh, one of the figures of the 1979 revolution, former head of radio and television, and former Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, was executed by firing squad in Tehran on the night of September 15, 1982, corresponding to the 24th of Shahrivar 1361.

He had been tried and convicted on charges of participating in a plot to overthrow the Islamic Republic and assassinate Ruhollah Khomeini.
