Ms. Elahe Mohammadi and Niloufar Hamedi, two members of the Tehran Journalists' Trade Association, have been released after 17 months of imprisonment, each on bail set at 10 billion tomans.

The Journalists' Trade Association, while criticizing the heavy bail amount, welcomes their temporary release and hopes that the severe ruling will be overturned in the appeals court, transforming this temporary release into permanent freedom. We also hope that the process of liberation extends to other imprisoned journalists, resulting in the freedom of all our colleagues.

The Journalists' Trade Association of Tehran has repeatedly emphasized in various statements that journalism is not a crime and journalists should not be treated as security offenders, especially considering that journalists in Iran always operate on the edge of a knife. Authorities and institutions can support this profession, which is the fourth pillar of democracy, with patience and by enhancing their capacities, thereby strengthening civil institutions and ensuring effective public oversight.
