Iran clearly says that it is ready to renew diplomacy with the West

Laura Rosen, a reporter in the field of foreign policy and international relations (who closely monitored and reported on these developments during Iran's nuclear negotiations with the P5+1), in her latest article about her impressions of the first media meeting with Massoud Pezeshkian, the president of Iran wrote:

Perhaps the most important thing about the first visit of Masoud Pezeshkian, the new president of Iran, to New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly this week was the diplomatic delegation he brought with him. This includes veteran diplomat and former Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif, who serves as a medical adviser, as well as Zarif's former deputies (who played a key role in negotiating the 2016 Iran nuclear deal), Abbas Araghchi, the minister. The current Foreign Affairs and Majid Ravanchi are the Political Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. All of them were present in the meeting that Pezeshkian held yesterday morning with reporters in New York.

The message suggested by Iran's diplomatic delegation is that Iran is trying to have the best position to renew diplomacy with the West when the other side is ready. Six weeks before the US presidential election, it seems unlikely that the Biden administration will try to pursue direct negotiations with the new Iranian team. But it seems likely that the insiders will have the opportunity to talk to expert contacts and perhaps some former officials to update each other on their thinking. and help lay the groundwork for future talks as a new US president takes office.

Pezeshkian, who spoke in Farsi, emphasized that Iran hopes to return to the negotiating table and is not seeking instability in the region. He said: "Regarding the JCPOA, we have said 100 times that we are ready to fulfill our agreements." We hope to sit down at the table and talk to help promote "peace and security" in the world.

He complained that Israel has repeatedly taken actions that could escalate tensions, such as when it assassinated Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh while Haniyeh was attending an inauguration ceremony for doctors in Tehran in July.

In another part of his speech, he mentioned that Western countries, including the United States, have asked Iran to show restraint. The doctors, without specifying who "they" are, said they asked Iran to retaliate for Haniyeh's assassination. not, because the Gaza ceasefire agreement was perhaps only a week away. But no ceasefire agreement was reached.

He noted: At the same time, Israel is escalating the conflict with Lebanon's Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, and the United States has provided diplomatic cover for Israel's escalation of tensions.

He said: Let's create conditions where we can live together. Let's try to resolve tensions through dialogue.

Pointing out that Iran has signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, he said: We are ready to give up all our weapons until Israel does the same.

He said: Let's get together to create peace and security. We do not have territorial ambitions within the borders of others./Jamaran
