Etemad Newspaper reported:

The Guardian Council gained the right to exercise supervisory authority in 1995, and according to the interpretation provided by the members of this council regarding the aforementioned law, it does not consider itself accountable to any entity for its decisions and is not required to provide evidence for its rulings.

The supervisory authority is inconsistent with the provisions of Articles 9 and 62 of the Constitution and is also in conflict with the principles of democracy and free elections. Article 62 clearly states that the elections for the Islamic Consultative Assembly are to be conducted in a single stage and directly through secret ballot, whereas the aforementioned elections are conducted in two stages: the first stage involves the confirmation and selection of candidates, and then those who pass the Guardian Council's vetting are presented to the public for voting.
