Another narration of Hasan Yousefi Ashkouri in a dialogue with the late Dr. Abbas Sheibani in the 1980s in the parliament

I said: Is there anything wrong with hitting a prisoner?!
He said: No, it is ta'zeer.

I said: Isn't it written in the constitution that any kind of torture to obtain a confession is prohibited?
He said: This is not torture, it is Tazeer!

I said: Punishment has a definition and conditions, its purpose is to discipline, not to get a confession! Isn't it that you are doing this under the title of punishment, but to get a confession against yourself?
He said: It is necessary, sir! It is necessary!

I said: What is the need?
He said: When someone is armed and arrested and does not speak, it is necessary to get a confession from him.

I said: The fact that it was not necessary, this is what it is said that the end justifies the means!
He said: Sir! If they do not do this, the Islamic Republic will disappear!
I said: Instead of Islam, the earth will remain!
He said: No, neither the Islamic Republic nor Islam will remain!

I said: Do you remember that Mr. Meshkini suggested that "hitting" be permissible as an exception in the constitutional review parliament with a similar argument? But Montazeri and Mr. Beheshti disagreed and said, first of all, this kind of beating, even if it is useful, is against Sharia. And secondly, how is it known that these beatings remain at the same level as fingernails and burning etc. . Do not lead! (quotation to the theme).
He said: Good! The same jurists have allowed it and it was even raised in the Revolutionary Council and allowed.

I said: First, what is the duty of the constitution? And secondly, how many types of Islam are there? And thirdly, did Imam Ali and the Prophet use such methods? Couldn't they use such methods to protect themselves?
He said: Yes, they have used it.
I said: Give me one item!
He angrily said: Sir, I have no argument with you, I say it is necessary and if not, the Islamic Republic will be destroyed! In general, I believe that these people who are arrested are not human beings and they do not have the right to live, and there is no problem in dealing with them in any way! Tazeer is nothing!

I said: Just this?
He said: Just this.
