The United States says it targeted several Iranian missile launch sites and fast boats in the Persian Gulf.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) stated in a press release: 'U.S. forces today (Monday) carried out defensive attacks in southern Iran to protect our forces from threats posed by Iranian forces.'

The CENTCOM statement added: 'The targets of these attacks included missile launch sites and Iranian boats that were attempting to lay mines. The U.S. Central Command, while exercising restraint during the ongoing ceasefire, continues to defend its forces.'

Iran has not yet officially responded to this report, but some Iranian sites reported that two IRGC fast boats near the shores of the Persian Gulf were targeted and that several crew members on these boats were killed.

At midnight on Monday, local time in Iran, some residents of Bandar Abbas and the cities along the Persian Gulf coast reported hearing several explosions and air defense activity.

Official media also confirmed these reports but stated that the cause of these explosions is unknown.
