According to the German Foreign Minister, this action is in response to the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, an Iranian-German citizen.
Germany has already recalled its ambassador from Tehran and summoned Iran's chargé d'affaires in Berlin to give explanations.
Although all Iranian consulates in Germany will be closed, the German Foreign Ministry will allow the Iranian embassy in Berlin to continue operating.
