Ayatollah Khomeini had stated in this announcement

In this communiqué, Ayatollah Khomeini stated: "I declare to the commanders of the army that if the aggression of the army is prevented and they join the nation and the legitimate national Islamic government, we will consider them from the nation and the nation as their own, and we will treat them like brothers."
