On the morning of August 25, 1332, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and Soraya Esfandiari left Iran for Italy.  The failure of the initial coup against Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh's government led to the departure of the king and queen from Iran.

The plane carrying the king and queen of Iran arrived at Baghdad airport on the way to Rome.  On the 26th of August, the Shah asks the Iraqi authorities to go on a pilgrimage to Karbala.  First, read the narrative of the weekly information magazine number 630 dated Mehr 3, 1332 about the Shah's presence in Karbala.

Then read this event with the narration of Manouchehr Farhang Haeri, an Iranian diplomat who was a resident of Baghdad at the time of the King and Queen's visit to Karbala.  Abdul Ali Farhang Haeri, the father of this Iranian diplomat, was Iran's ambassador to Iraq at that time.

This part of Farhang Haeri's memoirs was selected from an interview with Moin Nik Tabab.  Also watch the photos of the presence of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and Soraya Esfandiari in the Holy Shrine of Imam Hossein in August 1332.
