Today marks the anniversary of the birth of Sadegh Qotbzadeh, a critic of the Pahlavi regime and a fighter in the 1979 Revolution, who was with Ayatollah Khomeini on the French plane. After the victory of the 1979 Revolution, he held positions as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Managing Director of the National Iranian Radio and Television Organization, and a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Council.

This video features the voice of Sadegh Qotbzadeh expressing his thoughts and feelings about Ayatollah Khomeini:

‘In my first encounter, I felt that he was the authority, the guide I had been searching for all those years, right in front of me, alive. He speaks. It is tangible.

I should also mention that don’t think I am someone who is completely mesmerized; that’s not the case. When I have an opinion, I express it very decisively. If I have a criticism, I say it. If my opinion is contrary to his, I voice it. And I have always said this.

These are not just words.’

Qotbzadeh was executed shortly after the victory of the revolution on charges of plotting to overthrow the Islamic Republic and planning to assassinate Ayatollah Khomeini.
