The incident, which with 444 days of American diplomats being held hostage, created a crisis in the relations between Tehran and Washington, whose consequences continue to this day, with the continuation of the severance of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

One of the people taken hostage during the embassy attack is John Limbert, a retired diplomat who today, at the age of 81, spoke to Radio Farda about the incident, its consequences and the future of the two countries' progress. 

In part, he told Radio Farda's Hannah Kavyani that the hostage-taking was not an American issue, but the result of a power struggle within Iran itself.
