The elections for the first term of the parliament after the revolution were held in two stages: the first stage on March 14, 1979 (Esfand 24, 1358) and the second stage on May 8, 1980 (Ordibehesht 19, 1359). The first session of the first parliament was held on May 27, 1980 (Khordad 7, 1359). The senior president of the first parliament was initially Yadollah Sahabi, and the first vice president was Engineer Mehdi Bazargan.
