Full-Text:

In the name of the Almighty

Once again, we are unbelievably mourning the loss of another elite girl of this land. Dear and dear assistant in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Narges Mohammadpour, who at the end of the difficult and laborious path of residency, unfortunately took a bitter step and passed away from us.

This tragic incident raises many questions in our minds:

How is it possible that a person who has been on the path to his specialty for years with effort and care and is about to end the difficult period of residency, give up life at this critical moment?

How is it possible that a person who is close to achieving his dreams, at such a moment, passes through all those hardships and pains and turns away from life?

Even if an indirect event, caused by external issues and unrelated to the profession, is the cause of this bitter choice, what is really damaging is the psychological pressures and the small and large underlying stresses that gradually and cumulatively affect the person's psyche and make him so fragile that even the smallest pressures can cause him to collapse.

This unfortunate incident is a reminder that we must pay special attention to the psychological conditions and hidden pressures that young residents and doctors face during their training and activities.

Difficult working conditions and professional challenges, especially in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, combined with legal pressures and complex cases such as Cerebral Palsy (CP), which not only carries a heavy financial burden but also has many psychological consequences, can have a detrimental impact on the mental health of doctors.

This incident further reveals the need to seriously review and pay attention to the psychological and professional status of residents and obstetricians and gynecologists. The structure of residency training should be reviewed and psychological and financial support for physicians should be strengthened, especially in the face of legal problems and challenges such as complex CP cases, which have become a nightmare for obstetricians and gynecologists. The legal pressures and financial problems caused by such cases should not cause the morale and mental health of young doctors to collapse.

The Iranian Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, while expressing its regret and sorrow over this incident and expressing its condolences to the respected family and the medical community, especially the country's obstetricians and gynecologists, once again emphasizes that in order to prevent similar incidents and new crises, it is necessary for the Ministry of Health to take serious and urgent measures to revise the educational structure of residents and provide psychological and financial support to specialists in this field. Action. As emphasized in previous correspondence, it is necessary to form a special committee to address the problems in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.

For the soul of the late Dr. Narges Mohammadpour, we ask God Almighty for peace and elevation.

May their souls be happy and their memory cherished.

Dr. Soudabeh Kazemi Eski, President of the Iranian Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
